Something I Love

The recent big band brouhaha reminded me of a favorite webcomic:

So I decided to post something that I love, and perhaps we can all enjoy:

Candied Bacon!

1 lb. of bacon, in 10-12 thick-cut slices

Lots o’ brown sugar

Preheat oven to 350° F. Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Lay the bacon on the sheet, so that the strips are not touching. Cover each strip of bacon evenly with about 2 teaspoons of brown sugar.Bacon and Sugar

Bake in oven for twelve minutes.  Remove from oven, and flip bacon over, dragging each strip through the glaze of fat and carmelizing sugar.

Return to oven for 12 more minutes, until bacon is completely cooked, and the liquid is very dark brown.Finished Bacon

Remove from oven, and allow bacon to cool on a cooling rack (not paper towels, or they will soak up the glaze.)Cooling Bacon

This candied bacon is delicious on its own, but it can also be used many ways.  In a salad, it could be a cross between candied walnuts and bacon bits.  Crumbled up, it makes a great ice cream topping.  It can even be used to add some smokey goodness to chocolate chip cookies.  Enjoy!

  1. Yes, Matt made this bacon. And YES, it was delicious.

  2. Vik and I have decided that we must throw a bacon party. It will have lots of bacon. Bacon-wrapped anything, candied bacon, choco-dipped bacon, bacon stir sticks for bacon bloody marys… who’s with me?!

    • I’ll be there.

      • Me too. Luther burgers?

  3. Matt still has LOTS of bacon. He should share.

  4. Hey Matt and Vikram! Nice blog!

    • Hi Laurandrea, thanks for reading. Bacon Creme Brulee sounds fantastic.
